Piano students get pro feedback

The National Piano auditions will take place Monday through Friday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

One hundred and eight local piano pupils from the studios of Mary Cornwell, Jean Drumm, Sarah Higgins, Janet Johnson, Trilla Lyeria, Linda Neigert, Rebecca Mergen Pennington, Michelle Rautmann and Elaine de San Miguel have registered as candidates for membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, Teacher Division of the American College of Musicians.

This group of young pianists will perform in the presence of a professional adjudicator chosen by the national organization, and receive a certificate, pin, report card and a year’s membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians.

Alice Brooks Sanders, of Shawnee, Okla., will be this year’s adjudicator. Saunders holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Baylor University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Oklahoma. She maintains a piano studio in her home and serves as Director of Music Ministry at United Presbyterian Church in Shawnee.
