O’Donnell coy on future plans

New York – Rosie O’Donnell may quickly be putting “The View” in her rear-view mirror. Asked Monday about her future plans in television, she said, “you’ll hear very soon.”

O’Donnell only winked and walked away when pressed for details by reporters outside the Eugene O’Neill Theater in Manhattan, where she was a host for an online panel about teen issues with the cast of “Degrassi: The Next Generation” and cast members of the Broadway musical “Spring Awakening.”

“I’ll give an autograph, not a comment,” she said as she scribbled her name for some fans. “An autograph is easier.”

O’Donnell, the actors and a theater audience of teenagers talked about sex, relationships, coming out and peer pressure in the online discussion.

O’Donnell’s advice for teenagers who felt pressure from girlfriends or boyfriends: “You will never meet an adult who will say, ‘God, I wish I had sex sooner.”‘

‘View’ co-host Hasselbeck has announcement of her own

New York – Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a co-host on “The View,” is pregnant again. She announced the news Monday on the daytime ABC talk show.

Hasselbeck, 29, and her husband, pro football player Tim Hasselbeck, have a 2-year-old daughter, Grace.

“When you said you had an announcement, my heart sank!” joked Barbara Walters, co-host and creator of “The View.”

Last week, Rosie O’Donnell announced she was leaving the show in June because she and ABC, owned by The Walt Disney Co., couldn’t agree on a new contract.

“We’re going to be lonely without you, so Tim and I thought we should get busy and, you know, maybe make a little co-host,” Hasselbeck said.

She said the baby is due in November.

“And what is November?” asked Walters.

“Sweeps!” said O’Donnell.

“Yes, sweeps!” Walters replied.

“Perfect timing,” O’Donnell said.

Auction Nirvana

New York – Courtney Love, widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, says she plans to sell most of his belongings.

“I’m going to have a Christie’s auction,” Love, 42, tells AOL music Web site Spinner.com. “(My house) is like a mausoleum.”

Love and Cobain wed in 1992 and had a daughter, Frances Bean, that year. Cobain committed suicide in 1994.

“My daughter doesn’t need to inherit a giant … bag full of flannel … shirts,” says Love, former frontwoman of the rock band Hole. “A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to ‘(Smells Like) Teen Spirit’ – that’s what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we’ll just … sell.”

No date has been set for the auction, AOL publicist Kurt Patat told The Associated Press on Monday.

Love, whose upcoming album is titled “Nobody’s Daughter,” says friends support the idea.

“Everyone’s been positive and behind me on it,” she says. “We’ll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity.”

Prince definitely headed for combat in Iraq

London – The head of the British army said Monday that he had personally decided that Prince Harry, the third in line to the throne, will serve with a combat unit in Iraq.

Commanders reportedly had reconsidered their decision to allow the prince to fight in Iraq for fear he would become a target of insurgents and his presence could endanger other soldiers.

Harry’s regiment, the Blues and Royals, is due to begin a six-month tour of duty in Iraq within weeks.

Over the past two weeks, newspapers have reported threats by Iraqi insurgents to kill or kidnap the prince, including claims his photograph had been widely circulated among militants.

Military chiefs acknowledge that Harry would be an attractive target and that his presence could lead to a surge in attacks on British forces.

Gen. Sir Richard Dannatt said that the decision would be kept under review, but he hoped his statement would end media speculation on Harry’s deployment.

“The decision has been taken by myself that he will deploy in due course,” Dannatt said.

“I would urge that the somewhat frenzied media activity surrounding this particular story should cease in the interests of the overall security of all our people deployed in Iraq.”
