K.C. man’s nose broken in attack

A 34-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man suffered a broken nose when he was attacked early Monday in Lawrence’s downtown, according to Lawrence police.

Police said the victim reported he and a female friend had just had an argument about 12:30 a.m. while standing on the east sidewalk in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street.

The victim told police that an unidentified male yelled at him from the west side of the street.

“The victim reports he responded with a gesture and turned to walk toward the Granada,” said Kim Murphree, a Lawrence police spokeswoman. That’s when the victim said he was suddenly struck in the face, Murphree said.

The victim reported that another person told him that a white male had struck him and run north on Massachusetts Street, police reported. Police were unable to find the assailant.
