A new Jazzercise fitness center opens April 9 in Lawrence.

The center, in the Sunset West shopping center, 3115 W. Sixth St., will offer 27 Jazzercise classes each week. Childcare will be available during many of the classes.

A grand-opening celebration will be conducted during the first weekend in May, with free classes conducted at 8:10 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. May 5 and 3 p.m. May 6.

Jennifer Colander, a Jazzercise instructor in Lawrence, said that existing classes had become popular to the point that a new center is needed. Classes now offered at Dance City will be transferred to the new center.
