Accident sends child, adult to hospital

A young child was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Wednesday night after being injured in a wreck at 10th and Kentucky streets.

Mattie Mincey, who saw the aftermath of the wreck, said she was preparing to go to sleep at the Lawrence Community Shelter, 214 W. 10th St., when she heard there had been a car accident and went outside.

“I just saw the lady come running over with the baby saying the baby was hurt,” Mincey said. “The baby was looking up at me. She was breathing real shallow.”

Details of what happened weren’t available Wednesday night, but there appeared to have been a two-vehicle wreck involving a Kia SUV and a Chevrolet sedan.

Dispatchers received the report of the wreck about 9:46 p.m. At 10 p.m., a group of paramedics and police were examining the young child as she sat in a woman’s lap on the ground in the rear lot of the shelter.

Both the woman and the child were taken to LMH by ambulance.
