Accused baby-snatcher had recently miscarried

? A woman accused of abducting a newborn from the mother’s hospital room last week had recently experienced her second miscarriage, a relative said Tuesday.

And since being arrested, Rayshaun Parson, 21, has tried to kill herself more than once, her attorney said.

She has become so depressed that family members scarcely recognize her, a relative said as Parson was arraigned Tuesday on a federal kidnapping charge.

Parson will be held in a jail in Dickens, Texas, pending a detention hearing scheduled for Friday. Federal authorities charged her Monday in the abduction of Mychael Darthard-Dawodu, who was 3 days old when taken.

Since her arrest, Parson has “attempted suicide more than once, by swallowing two latex gloves and part of a notebook” and by taking pills, assistant public defender Helen Liggett said in a legal filing.

Liggett’s motion also says Parson has had miscarriages, including one as recently as January.
