USS Cole widow expects satisfaction at trial

? For the families of the 17 sailors killed in a terrorist attack on the Norfolk-based destroyer Cole, the upcoming trial against the Republic of Sudan offers one more chance to put the tragedy behind them.

“It’s going to be a great satisfaction, to talk about it, to let the other side know what happened to us,” said Lorrie D. Triplett, whose husband, Andrew, perished in the Oct. 12, 2000, bombing.

Fifty-nine family members of the 17 Cole victims are suing Sudan in U.S. District Court, seeking payment for the loss of their loved ones.

Andrew Triplett, known as Drew, was 31 years old when he died. He also left behind two daughters.

Lorrie Triplett is now raising five children and lives in a stately brick home filled with toys in the Bennett’s Creek area of Suffolk, Va.
