Baldwin City woman injured on ATV

A Baldwin City woman was injured Tuesday night when a four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle overturned in southern Douglas County.

The woman, identified by the sheriff’s office as Shelby Dodson, 38, was flown by helicopter to the Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

A hospital condition report was unavailable Wednesday, but her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, sheriff’s Lt. Kari Wempe said.

Dodson was riding the ATV in the 1100 section of North 650 Road, about five miles south of Lawrence, when the accident occurred shortly after 6 p.m., Wempe said.

Dodson tried to avoid driving into a ditch and was thrown from the ATV, Wempe said. She was not wearing a helmet.

A woman who was accompanying Dodson on another ATV called 911 for help.
