A serial rape suspect accused of assaulting three Lawrence women in the mid-1990s appeared before a Douglas County District Court judge Wednesday.

New advances in DNA testing led authorities to the 38-year-old who was extradited from California to face charges.

The man’s attorney, James Rumsey, said he planned on filing a motion to have some of the 11 counts his client faces dismissed.

Judge Michael Malone scheduled a preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 7.
