Group effort

To the editor:

Thank you very much for your story on Conor’s receiving the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Award. We are very proud of him and his heartfelt desire to help others.

Once Conor decided to raise money for the Heifer Project, he knew that he could raise the money for a water buffalo on his own. Trying hard to get that water buffalo, he reached out to the Deerfield Elementary Student Council. They were very excited about the idea and in turn got the whole school involved.

While the story in the Tuesday Journal-World did mention the student council’s involvement, we feel it is important to point out their contribution in greater detail. Conor had a great idea, but it was only achieved through the generosity and hard work of Conor’s classmates at Deerfield and the participation of the faculty at Prairie Park. In particular, the money raised for the Heifer Project, as outlined in the story, would not have been possible without the efforts of the Deerfield Elementary Student Council officers Addison Eddis, Timmy Kramer, Jamie Braden, T.J. Cobb and Eliza Gant as well as the other student council members and faculty sponsors at Deerfield Elementary.

It was the generosity and commitment of the Deerfield and Prairie Park Elementary School communities that raised the money for the Heifer Project and they, too, should be recognized.

Todd and Lisa Hiatt,

Lawrence
