Googols of Learning closes, plans growth
Googols of Learning, a childcare center that opened two years ago in northwest Lawrence, has closed to help prepare for a potential remodeling project that could triple the number of children it serves.
The childcare center – located inside Googols of Fun, 4931 W. Sixth St. – closed June 1, despite operating near its capacity for handling 45 children, ages 2 through 12.
Amy Gottschamer, owner of both operations, said that remodeling the center to include more classrooms would be the only way to enroll enough students to cover expenses.
Remodeling could cost “several hundred thousand dollars,” she said, but increase capacity to 135 students.
Should the project come together, she said, the childcare center also would anticipate accepting infants as young as a year old.
While the childcare center is closed, Googols of Fun remains open for walk-in playtime Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and during other days for special events.
