Meals event

To the editor:

The Meals On Wheels board of directors and staff would like to thank the Lawrence community for its help in making our third annual “Enjoy Spring” fundraiser at Abe and Jake’s a great success! Thanks to our event sponsors, Central National Bank and Westar Energy, and to the more than 200 businesses and individuals that donated time, money, great auction items and food, as well as everyone who attended. A special thanks to our master of ceremonies, Kim Murphree, for making our first live auction a huge hit, and to our committed staff who put in an unbelievable amount of time and effort to make it all happen. Our silent and live auctions, along with numerous appetizers and desserts, made this an enjoyable evening for all who participated.

The Lawrence community has always been supportive of our program, which serves approximately 120 meals per day to individuals who have a special dietary need and are unable to prepare meals on their own. For more than 37 years, Meals On Wheels has not turned anyone away, regardless of their ability to pay. The community’s continued support has made this possible.

We also would like to thank our volunteers who deliver Meals On Wheels each and every week, providing not only a nutritious meal but also a friendly face and a daily check on those who are trying to maintain their independence. We definitely couldn’t do it without you!
