Motorcycle-deer wreck leaves 2 people injured

An Olathe man has been released from the hospital after a motorcycle-deer collision Saturday night 2 miles south of Lawrence.

Darrin R. Peak, 38, was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after the 10 p.m. wreck on U.S. Highway 59 when a deer ran to the west in front of the 1985 Honda motorcycle that Peak was driving, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

The southbound motorcycle struck the deer, and Peak and his passenger, Melissa Suiter, 35, Olathe, who were not wearing helmets, were injured.

According to the accident report, Suiter and Peak were both taken to LMH. A nursing supervisor said Sunday afternoon that Peak was treated and released and that the hospital had no record of Suiter as a patient.
