Hottest bachelors named

New York – Matthew McConaughey – frequently photographed shirtless and exercising on the beach – is People magazine’s “bachelor of the year.”

“I love warm weather and summertime,” the 37-year-old actor says in the magazine’s “Hottest Bachelors” issue, on newsstands Friday. “What better way to enjoy it than at the beach, where few people wear shirts?”

When asked how he maintains his muscular build, McConaughey says: “I don’t really have a workout regimen I follow. I just live my life. My goal is to break a sweat each day.”

The magazine also names “sexy and sizzling” bachelors such as Adrian Grenier, Zach Braff, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Reynolds, Ludacris and Apolo Ohno.

David Spade, who starred on the “Just Shoot Me!” television series, also makes the cut.

“Luckily we live in a world where women can overlook the physical and focus on things more important, like having a good personality … or being on a TV show,” the 42-year-old actor-comedian says.

Hilton returns to women’s jail

Los Angeles – With her medical condition now stabilized, Paris Hilton has been transferred back to an all-women’s jail after nearly a week in a medical ward, a sheriff’s official said Thursday.

Hilton was brought late Wednesday to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood and placed in the medical clinic there. If all goes well, she will return to the jail’s special needs unit and be released June 25, spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

“Her condition is stable” but she will continue to be monitored, Whitmore said.

The 26-year-old socialite and reality TV star began her 45-day sentence June 3 at Lynwood, where she was confined to a solitary cell in the special needs unit away from the other 2,200 inmates.

After three days, Sheriff Lee Baca sent Hilton home for an unspecified medical condition that he later said was psychological.

But Judge Michael T. Sauer, who specified at Hilton’s sentencing last month that she not serve time at home or with the use of electronic monitoring, sent her back to jail last Friday, saying he hadn’t condoned her release.

Hilton was taken to the downtown Twin Towers jail, which houses men and the county’s medical treatment center, where she underwent medical and psychiatric exams to determine where she should be held.

Hilton’s stay there cost taxpayers $1,109.78 a day, more than 10 times the cost of housing inmates in the general population.

Clarkson cancels tour

Los Angeles – Kelly Clarkson’s much-anticipated third album, “My December,” will hit stores on June 26, but fans hoping to hear her perform its songs live this summer will have to wait a little longer. Clarkson’s camp announced Thursday that her summer tour is being “shelved” because of disappointing ticket sales.

“We came to the realization that we bit off more than we could chew,” the tour’s promoter, Michael Rapino, chairman of Live Nation, said in a statement issued Thursday.

The move marks a continuing period of turmoil for the 25-year-old artist. She fired her longtime manager, Jeff Kwatinetz, earlier this week and previously had decided not to reunite for the new album with the producers who helped develop “Breakaway,” the record that sold 10 million copies and earned her two Grammys. That decision has caused considerable friction between Clarkson and executives at her label, RCA Records.

Walters gets her star

Los Angeles – Talk about odd bedfellows.

Barbara Walters was honored Thursday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The TV newswoman’s star on the sidewalk in front of the Kodak Theatre is between those for Ryan Seacrest and Destiny’s Child.

“This strange alignment makes me hip and hot,” Walters quipped during a ceremony attended by her “The View” co-hosts Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Other well-wishers included Police Chief William Bratton, Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Bob Iger, and Kathy and Nicky Hilton.

The ceremony came a day before the Daytime Emmys, in which Walters is nominated as both a host and producer of “The View.”
