Baldwin art walk starts Friday

Good music and no downtown construction should help the Baldwin Community Arts Council’s first art walk of the summer kick off on the right foot Friday night.

At 7 p.m., the first of four monthly events begins in downtown Baldwin City. The first installment will feature loads of art and music by Alonzo Beardshear and Gloria Roach.

“The BCAC is happy to be having the first art walk downtown this Friday,” said Kathy Dorsey, BCAC president. “We welcome all artists that would like to come and participate. If you have never participated before, now is your chance to try it.”

The downtown streetscape project was originally supposed to start construction Monday, but will not begin until next Monday. That avoids any problems with the art walk.

“We are going to continue the practice of selecting a ‘patron favorite’ artist who will be awarded $50,” Dorsey said. “We will also draw the name of the lucky patron, and they can purchase $50 worth of art from any of the artists present.”

After the art walk ends at 9 p.m., the film “American Graffiti” will be shown in the green area by the post office.

There will be an Art Walk on the third Friday of every month through September. The final event will be the Cuppa Java on Sept. 21.
