Emergency crews responding to motorcycle accident

Douglas County Sheriff’s officers have said a 49-year-old Berryton woman was injured and flown to the Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., after a motorcycle accident this morning near the Douglas and Shawnee county line.

The woman was a passenger on a motorcycle – driven by her husband, a 57-year-old Berryton man – that was headed west on County Road 442, said Lt. Kari Wempe, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

As the pair approached curves near East 50 Road, the driver lost control, Wempe said. Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, which occurred about 7:30 a.m., she said.

Neither the driver nor the passenger wore a helmet, Wempe said.

The sheriff’s department has not released names of those involved.

The woman was flown to the KU hospital due to her injuries. The driver was not transported from the scene, Wempe said.
