Lawrence police arrested a 51-year-old Lawrence man under suspicion of a reported rape that occurred Sunday morning.
The man was accused by a 39-year-old Lawrence resident of raping her at knifepoint early Sunday morning at a common residence in northwest Lawrence.
Police found the suspect after he called 911 to report that three men were attacking him Monday afternoon.
The suspect called police to Sixth and Michigan streets after he fled the three men. He reported the men battered him and tried to restrain him.
One of the men, a 24-year-old, went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with a laceration on his arm after the suspect allegedly stabbed him with a knife.
Kim Murphree, spokeswoman for the Lawrence police department, said that one of the men who attacked the suspect was related to the alleged rape victim.
She added that police were not speculating on the motive for the attack on the suspect and said police continued to investigate whether the two incidents were related.
The suspect was taken into custody while none of the three men involved in the attack on the suspect were arrested.

It looks like he still had the “knife” used in the previous attack on the woman. Was this a failed attempt to get vigilante justice for the victim?

Looks like someone could find him. Looks like an armed rapist was running around town for a pretty long time. They were probably looking for him. They should of called the police and helped them. People can get hurt dealing with fugitives armed with a knife.

I know a better use for that knife. Try a couple off fresh mountain oysters in a glass of whiskey for the guy to drink away his pain.

I like the way you think, Smitty!
Really, what are the cops going to do? If it went to trial she'd be the one on trial. The is no justice in sex crimes for the victims unless you are tragically brutalized and left for dead and hardly even then.

Azure, you have no idea what you are talking about. The cops arrest the offender the liberal judge let them go. This guy has been arrested so many times for violent crimes it makes my head hurt. Again, the cops arrest him and the liberal judge (un-named) will return him to the street. So get it right okay?

This story tells us that even violent criminals want the police to protect them when they themselves are threatened. Ironic that a accused (not proven guilty yet) rapist will call 911 to save his own a$$.

Sorry Parkay, but that's a hair-brained theory. This alleged crime has nothing to do with Judge Paula Martin's previous sentencing record! And if you had forgotten some of you short-sighted individuals already tried to get her off the Douglas County bench….and FAILED!
Vigilante justice is not real justice. It is simply another crime.

Remember the story a few months ago about the father who killed the guy next next door because he thought the dude molested his son, only to find out there was no way he did it? Innocent until proven guilty.
