Constitution Hall among finalists
Lecompton’s Constitution Hall State Historic Site is among 24 finalists to be considered one of the Eight Wonders of Kansas.
Finalists were announced Friday in Inman by Marci Penner, director of the Kansas Sampler Foundation. In March, the foundation launched a project to find the eight wonders from eight rural culture elements established by the foundation. The elements are architecture, art, commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history and people.
A selection committee determined the finalists from public nominations.
“The real purpose of this campaign is to encourage people to know more about their state,” Penner said. “We hope the fun of this project will inspire them to travel to all 24 sites this summer and fall before they vote.”
The public can learn about each site at 8wonders.org. Public voting started Friday and will continue to Dec. 31. On Jan. 29, 2008, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will announce the final eight. Voting can be done online, by calling (620) 585-2374 or by brochures and ballots at the 24 sites.
