Lawrence police found a woman hiding in a vehicle in a garage early Thursday after they responded to a reported robbery and burglary in the 4700 block of Ranch Court.

The 22-year-old woman told officers she was awakened shortly after 2 a.m. when a man armed with a handgun entered her bedroom and told her to stay quiet, according to a police report.

The burglar searched the room before taking a cell phone and leaving. The woman ran to the garage, got in the car and called police on a second cell phone. Police found the stolen cell phone while searching the area.

Police are continuing to investigate.
