Man shot while discussing firearms

A 24-year-old Lawrence man was flown by air ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital after being accidentally shot late Sunday evening.

Emergency responders received a call shortly before midnight that Robert Clay LeValley had been shot in the chest at a 25-year-old friend’s apartment in the 1500 block of Lynch Court. The two men had been discussing firearms while the friend was demonstrating techniques with a .40-caliber gun, police said. The gun went off, shooting a round into LeValley’s upper right chest.

Police said LeValley was in stable condition when he was flown to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. Citing privacy laws, hospital officials said late Monday they could not provide information on his condition.
