Law enforcement report

¢ A Lawrence man hit by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle on U.S. Highway 24-40 last week has been released from the hospital.

On July 9, John Phelps, 20, was riding a bicycle east on U.S. 24-40 when he started to turn left onto East 1600 Road in front of a 1990 Ford Ranger pickup. Leroy Walters, 63, Tonganoxie, was driving the truck, which also was headed east.

Phelps, who suffered bumps and bruises and a stress fracture, was transported by air ambulance to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. He was released late last week, according to Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper T.L. Berner.

No citations have been issued in the incident.

¢ A 42-year-old Carbondale man was driving a 1999 Ford and was stopped in traffic when struck from behind by a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer driven by a 26-year-old Baldwin City woman. The accident occurred at 7:53 a.m. Tuesday near Iowa and 25th streets.

¢ A two-vehicle accident occurred at 1:36 p.m. Tuesday near Iowa and 23rd streets. A 19-year-old Lawrence woman was stopped waiting for traffic on an exit ramp off of 23rd Street in her 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2001 Honda Civic driven by a 30-year-old Lawrence woman.

¢ Two vehicles collided on about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday on the Kansas River Bridge. A 52-year-old woman driving a 2004 Buick and a 19-year-old woman driving a 1992 Mercury Cougar were both northbound on West Sixth Street and collided.

¢ Two vehicles collided about 8 p.m. Tuesday on Indiana Street. A 24-year-old woman driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier was driving south on Indiana Street near the 900 block and made a U-turn. That vehicle was struck on the right side by a 22-year-old woman driving a 1995 Ford Thunderbird north on Indiana Street.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ A 26-year-old Lawrence man reported an auto burglary on about 7:43 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of East 23rd Street. Cash, a black leather tri-fold wallet and CDs were reported stolen and a window was damaged. The total cost and damage was estimated at $1,624.

¢ A 31-year-old Lawrence woman reported the theft of a matching garnet diamond ring and bracelet worth $1,200. The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2000 block of East 24th Street.

Injury accidents

¢ At 2:37 a.m. Sunday, two vehicles collided at the intersection of West Ninth and Iowa streets. According to the police accident report, a Honda Civic, driven by Kiara Robinson, 17, hit an Isuzu Trooper sport-utility vehicle driven by Cesar Rodriguez, 22, of Lawrence.

Both Robinson and her passenger, Courtney Barber, 17, of Lawrence, were injured and transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Robinson was issued citations for red-light violation, no insurance and illegal tag. Barber was treated and released. Robinson’s condition was unavailable.
