Lawrence writer honored for work
Lisa McBride, of Lawrence, was a recipient of one of Kansas City Voices’ 2007 Best of Awards.
McBride was honored with the Rainy Day Books/Kansas City Voices Best Of Poetry Award for her work, “After-Effects.”
Voices poetry editor Judith Bader Jones says, “McBride’s poem, “After-Effects,” uses strong imagery to focus on issues that can follow soldiers home from war. Her word choices attempt to find closure for an age-old problem that she defines with clarity in her well-chosen title.”
Winning works will be included in the 2007 Kansas City Voices edition, coming in October.
McBride’s work has appeared in The Oklahoma Review, Gumball Poetry and Thin Air Magazine. She is an adjunct assistant professor of English and technical editor at Johnson County Community College.
