Theater programs open to children

Lawrence-area youths are invited to beat the summer heat with Lawrence Community Theatre’s “School’s Out, Theatre’s in” program.

“No Strings Attached” is a weeklong program for first- through fifth-graders scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through July 13. Students will explore this musically enchanting story of the old woodcarver Geppetto and his marionette son, Pinocchio. The week will include music and song, along with building props, creating costume pieces and rehearsals. At the end of the week, there will be a performance for family and friends.

“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” by Washington Irving, will be for sixth- through eighth-graders and will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23 through July 27. That information was incorrect in an earlier press release from the theater, 1501 N.H.

The fee for either program is $98, which includes instruction, materials and snacks. Scholarship assistance is available for both camps.
