One way only
To the editor:
Lawrence has some one-way streets that daily carry traffic. These streets were planned and constructed by people with expertise in city planning, traffic flow and safety – equipped with signs to guide us. We travel these streets with ease and confidence. But many of us have experienced a driver making the mistake of heading the wrong way. This is a dangerous path to take, risking the safety of all in that area. Would we change the traffic laws for someone wanting to travel the wrong way on Kentucky Street if they said that our community is intolerant?
I would ask that we consider that there is an expert that designed and created us with a plan and purpose. This plan also includes “signs” on a “one-way street.” It’s not designed to limit and control us, but is a loving provision for a safe and productive passage through life. Our loving heavenly Father designed a one-way plan for our lives for our best interest and safety. This plan is revealed in the creation and obvious design and function of our male and female bodies, and through God’s guidebook, the Bible. God says through these revelations that the best way (the one-way) to travel through life is through marriage between one man and one woman.
We all live by laws and guidelines to provide us with order and safety. If you believe you are open-minded, please consider this viewpoint. In response to the domestic partnership registry, I believe Lawrence would be headed the wrong way on a one-way street, a dangerous choice to make.
Julie Edmondson,
Lawrence
