Lawrence Scottish Fest to feature music, poetry

“Lawrence Scots” present their 11th annual Lawrence Scottish Fest today at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

The festival will run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a concert that lasts until 9 p.m.

The festival portion features members of the Topeka bagpipe band Pipers of the Plains, plus a Scottish Clan booth, raffle for original Celtic jewelry and traditional Scottish treats catered by Rocky Road Bakeries.

The concert features Celtic music and Robert Burns songs, as well as poetry performed by the folk-rock band Uncle Dirtytoes and the traditional and contemporary Celtic band Forest Green.

There also will be a short blessing of the Tartans ceremony before the concert, so anyone wearing a kilt can get in free.

Advance tickets are available at a discount from the Web site, www.lawrencescots.org, or at Mass Street Music, 1347 Mass.
