FOP safety
To the editor:
With interest, I read the article about the retreat being proposed for Lawrence. The comment about alcohol and guns not mixing reminded me of the safety concerns that have been voiced and ignored about the Fraternal Order of Police range in Lone Star.
One concern was about the traffic speed in the village, the stop sign that nobody sees and the number of cars going out to the range.
The second concern voiced was about the drinking of alcohol at the range, that I have seen, when weapons were present.
Last comment is about misguided or rebounding shots, because there is nothing to prevent a bullet from flying off in an unknown direction if it is misaimed or it hits a solid object (rock or another bullet) in the mound of dirt that is the target of all the ammunition.
It is a known fact that even a little .22-caliber bullet can travel a mile.
Ronald K. Wilson,
Lawrence
