Annette Deghand, special populations division supervisor for the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, accepted the Outstanding New or Innovative Recreation Program Award from the Kansas Recreation and Park Association's Recreation Branch.
Also honored were part-time employees Angela Harris and Sally Trujillo.
The award was given in recognition of a new Acting 101 class that Deghand developed. Its four sessions have produced four productions: adaptations of "Grease," "A Chorus Line," "The Lion King" and "Footloose."
Deghand, who has worked for the city for more than 15 years, received the award during the association's state conference, conducted earlier this month in Topeka. Nominations were reviewed and winners chosen by a committee of recreation professionals from across the state.
In April, Deghand received the Community Partner Award from Cottonwood Inc.
