Brazilian supermodel blames families in anorexia debate

Sao Paulo, Brazil – Gisele Bundchen has entered Brazil’s growing dispute over anorexia, saying families are to blame – not the fashion industry.

“I never suffered this problem because I had a very strong family base,” the supermodel told the local Globo newspaper on Friday. “The parents are responsible, not fashion.”

The 26-year-old model was in Brazil for the annual Fashion Rio, a weeklong showcase for some of the country’s top designers.

Anorexia became a hot issue in Brazil after the deaths of four young women last month, including 21-year-old model Ana Carolina Reston. The subject has held morbid fascination for Brazilians and was even the theme of a popular TV soap opera. It also sparked a debate within Brazil’s fashion industry.

Prince Charles cancels ski holiday to help environment

London – Prince Charles canceled a traditional skiing holiday in a bid to reduce his carbon footprint, his office said Saturday.

The decision came a day after campaigners and a government minister criticized his decision to fly to New York to collect an award for work on environmental issues.

Prince Charles’ Clarence House office said the prince had decided last year to cancel a regular skiing holiday to Switzerland as part of an effort to reduce the number of flights he takes.

Oprah Winfrey writes about ‘betrayal’ in pregnancy report

Chicago – Oprah Winfrey says in the February issue of her magazine that she cried for three days when a relative told the National Enquirer that Winfrey became pregnant at 14 and lost the baby after birth.

Winfrey already had confirmed the Enquirer’s 1990 report that she got pregnant as a teenager, telling Parade magazine later that year that the baby was born prematurely and died shortly after birth. Her half-sister, Patricia Lloyd, sold the story to the tabloid, according to news reports at the time.

Winfrey now says she learned something from what she calls “that first betrayal.” It allowed her to begin to heal from the sexual abuse she said she experienced as a girl.

“Everybody Hates Chris” averages a 1.0 rating with 2.92 million viewers for the CW, tying for 159th among this season’s broadcast TV shows.
