Concert to benefit Lawrence students

Musicians from Lawrence and Free State high schools will perform concertos Saturday to help raise funds for Music Works!, an endowed fund of the Lawrence Schools Foundation.

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Community members are invited to enjoy the concert. A dessert reception will follow the performance in the Mayflower Room.

Donations accepted at the event will go directly to benefit music education in the Lawrence Public Schools.

The following student performers will be featured: Demi Renault, voice; Sam Huneke, French horn; Raquel Gonzales, flute; Morteza Rabii and Anna Cook, cello duet; Justine Ahle, piano; Ashley Jeffrey, voice; Xander Casad, alto saxophone; and Evan Hunter, trumpet.

All gifts to the nonprofit Music Works! are tax-deductible.

The fund has grown to more than $60,000 since its inception in the fall of 2005.

A committee of public school music teachers, schools foundation officers and Music Works! representatives will award the first grants from the fund directly to music teachers this spring.

Music Works! board members include Bob and Katherine Dinsdale, Jim and Alison Nye, Edith Clowes, Margot Szabo, Bob Harrington, Marlene Penny and Bill Seidel.
