Hunter shot in foot by teen companion
A 17-year-old Baldwin City boy shot a 19-year-old Baldwin City man in the foot during a hunting trip Monday, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.
According to a sheriff’s report, the accident happened during a hunting trip at 352 E. 900 Road in Douglas County.
The 17-year-old had pointed a 22-caliber rifle toward the 19-year-old’s feet while trying to reload when the gun went off.
The injured man went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by a private vehicle, where the injury was reported.
Kari Wempe, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman, said the injury was minor and the man was treated and released. Wempe said they would submit a report to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, but the incident was thought to be accidental.
