Music students to perform in NYC

Two KU students were chosen from hundreds of applicants to perform at the New York City Trinity Church spring 2007 concert. Each of the students is enrolled in a doctoral program in the music and dance department in the KU School of Fine Arts.

Mary Fukushima, a DMA flute student studying under David Fedele, assistant professor of flute, and Michael Kirkendoll, a DMA piano student studying under Jack Winerock, professor of piano, make up DuoSolo. DuoSolo was chosen to perform at the church after an audition last year.

DuoSolo is devoted to performing music of living composers, including commissioning new works, such as “The Ruin of the Cypress,” a new work by Forrest Pierce, KU assistant professor of music composition. This new piece will have its world premiere at the spring concert.

The concert will take place Feb. 12.
