Music education benefit concert scheduled

A benefit concert dedicated to promote local public school music education is coming up later this month.

The concert, featuring musicians from Lawrence High School and Free State High School, will be at 3 p.m. Jan. 20 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt. Dessert will follow in the church’s Mayflower Room.

The concert will help raise funds for Music Works!, an endowed fund of the Lawrence Schools Foundation. All gifts are tax deductible.

The following students will perform: Demi Renault, voice; Sam Huneke, French horn; Raquel Gonzales, flute; Morteza Rabii and Anna Cook, cello duet; Justine Ahle, piano; Ashley Jeffrey, voice; Xander Casad, alto saxophone; Evan Hunter, trumpet.

Music Works! is a grass-roots effort of community members working to enrich the quality of and enhance access to music education in the Lawrence Public Schools. The fund has grown to more than $60,000 since its inception in 2005. The first grants will be awarded this spring.
