Washington ? The first Muslim elected to Congress will be sworn in with a Quran once owned by Thomas Jefferson.

Rep.-elect Keith Ellison will take the oath during a swearing-in ceremony today.

“It demonstrates that from the very beginning of our country, we had people who were visionary, who were religiously tolerant, who believed that knowledge and wisdom could be gleamed from any number of sources, including the Quran,” Ellison said Wednesday.

The chief of the Library of Congress’ rare book and special collections division, Mark Dimunation, will walk the Quran across the street to the Capitol and then walk it back after the ceremony.
