4th suspect arrested in Ottawa shooting

Lawrence police on Wednesday arrested the fourth suspect in what prosecutors say was a plot to kill a witness in a criminal trial in Douglas County.

Police detained Lee Roy House Jr., 44, on a warrant from Franklin County for attempted homicide and released him to Ottawa police later in the day. He was arrested and booked into Franklin County Jail with bond set at $1 million.

He is one of four people facing charges in the shooting of Michael Miller in Ottawa on Dec. 19, the day before Miller was due to testify against Lawrence resident Louis Galloway in an aggravated-battery trial in Douglas County District Court.

Kay F. Gaillard-Taylor, Lisa K. Winter and Jeffrey Campbell, all of Lawrence, are charged with attempted murder and conspiracy.

Miller was found in the street outside his home with multiple gunshot wounds. As of Wednesday, he remained in serious but stable condition at an undisclosed hospital.

House’s hometown was not available Wednesday night, but police said he has been known to frequent Douglas, Franklin and Atchison counties.
