Trustees seek DNA from James Brown’s body

Columbia, S.C. – Trustees for James Brown filed a motion Friday asking a judge to allow DNA samples to be taken from the body of the late soul singer to prove the paternity of anyone claiming to be one of his children.

Since the singer died two months ago, several people have come forward claiming Brown is their father, said one of the singer’s trustees, Buddy Dallas, who would not specify how many claims have been made.

Brown named six adult children in his will, and his partner, Tomi Rae Hynie, has said her young son also is Brown’s child.

The singer’s body remained in a gold casket at an undisclosed location Friday, according to the funeral home that handled Brown’s arrangements.

The DNA samples would need to be taken as soon as possible because Hynie has agreed with Brown’s children on burial plans, said Rodney Peeples, an attorney for Brown’s trustees.

When and where the Godfather of Soul will be buried have not been made public.

‘Sopranos’ actor in interview: I’m no ‘cold-blooded killer’

New York – Former “Sopranos” actor Lillo Brancato Jr., who faces a real-life murder charge in a police officer’s death, said he isn’t the thug he believes he has been made out to be.

“I’m not the monster that they portray me as in newspapers, a cold-blooded killer and all of that. I’m not that person at all,” he told WCBS-TV in a jail interview that aired Thursday.

Brancato and a co-defendant are awaiting trial in the December 2005 shooting of Officer Daniel Enchautegui, who was shot while off-duty.

Prosecutors said Enchautegui confronted Brancato and Steven Armento while they were breaking into a Bronx apartment in search of prescription drugs. Armento is accused of firing the fatal shot.

“I know in my heart I was in no way responsible for the death of that police officer,” Brancato told WCBS. His attorney barred questions about the shooting, according to the television station.
