Art a la carte

Welcome to Art a la Carte. I’m Journal-World arts editor Mindie Paget.

You can catch a fresh glimpse of four Lawrence neighborhoods tonight as Signs of Life Gallery opens its next exhibit. “The Neighborhood Show” features work by eight artists who share their visual interpretations of East Lawrence, Old West Lawrence, North Lawrence and downtown. The free public reception runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the gallery, and the show remains on view through April 7.

The teen artists at Van Go Mobile Arts have been busy crafting creative gifts for their fourth annual “Have A Heart” Valentine Art Show and Sale. Decorated boxes, functional painted canvas, candlesticks, handmade cards, glass works and a funky new collection of jewelry will be among the items for sale. The show opens tonight with a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the studio and stays up through Wednesday.

And Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Lawrence Chamber Orchestra returns with its annual Baroque by Candlelight concert. Under the baton of artistic director Steven Elisha, three world-class soloists will perform with the group: Larisa Elisha on violin, Margaret Marco on oboe and Beau Bledsoe on guitar. A decadent dessert bar will follow the concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m.
