Judge bars Web site from releasing Hilton’s information

Los Angeles – A federal judge has issued a temporary injunction against a Web site peddling personal pictures, videos, diaries and other items that heiress Paris Hilton once kept at a storage facility.

Hilton sued the Web site ParisExposed.com last month, accusing it of exploiting her private personal belongings for commercial gain. The injunction issued Friday temporarily bars the Web site from releasing Hilton’s Social Security number, health data and other personal information.

Hilton’s spokesman, Elliott Mintz, said Saturday he was pleased by the move.

“I know what this has done personally and emotionally to Paris,” Mintz said. “As far as I’m concerned, this is the most disturbing intrusion upon the privacy of a public figure that I’ve ever witnessed. “

The subscription-based Web site was launched last month and claims to have footage of Hilton in a “sexy bubble bath” video and various shots of the 25-year-old socialite in “racy situations.”

The lawsuit alleges two defendants paid $2,775 for the contents of the storage unit and later sold the items for

$10 million to entrepreneur Bardia Persa, who created the Web site.

David Lee Roth back as Van Halen singer for summer tour

Los Angeles – The rumors were true. Van Halen will reunite with original singer David Lee Roth for a summer tour of North America.

“I am very excited to get back to the core of what made Van Halen,” guitarist Eddie Van Halen said in a statement posted Friday on the band’s Web site announcing a 40 city tour. No specific dates have been named.

It will be the first time that Roth performs live with the band since 1984, when he was replaced by Sammy Hagar. A brief reunion with Roth in 1996 resulted in two new songs but no tour.

Original bassist Michael Anthony will not be a part of the reunion. Late last year he was replaced by Eddie Van Halen’s 15-year-old son Wolfgang.

On March 12 Van Halen will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York.

Los Angeles – Jennifer Lopez will receive an award for her work as producer and star of a film examining the murders of hundreds of women in a Mexican border town, Amnesty International officials said Friday.

Lopez will receive the Artists for Amnesty award Feb. 14 at the Berlin Film Festival from Nobel Peace Prize winner Jose Ramos-Horta. The film “Bordertown” will make its debut Feb. 15 at the festival.

In “Bordertown,” Lopez plays an investigative journalist reporting on the serial killings of women in the border city of Juarez, Mexico. Directed by Gregory Nava, the film also stars Antonio Banderas and Martin Sheen.

“Since first hearing of these atrocities in 1998, when Gregory Nava came to me with this project, I desperately wanted to tell this story,” Lopez said. “I began working to ensure we made this film in order to bring the attention of the world to this tragedy and to pressure the Mexican government to bring to justice those responsible for these horrible crimes.”

Kylie Minogue and actor boyfriend of 4 years split

London – Kylie Minogue can get Olivier Martinez out of her head.

The Australian singer announced that she’s split with her boyfriend of four years, a 41-year-old French actor who appears in the new movie “Blood and Chocolate.”

Minogue recently resumed performing after treatment for breast cancer diagnosed in 2005. In November, the 38-year-old singer told Elle magazine that Martinez had been an “incredible” support during her illness.

“Olli was there all the time, helping with the practical stuff and being protective,” she said. “I don’t like to say too much in public about Olivier as he’s a very private person, but I will say that he was incredible.”

Tabloids have recently speculated that Martinez was seeing someone else.

The tour guide, Brian Sapir, told the Los Angeles Times that he asked the Chewbacca impersonator to stop harassing two young Japanese tourists, and the actor exploded in anger.

“He said, ‘Nobody tells this wookie what to do,'” Sapir said.

Frederick Evan Young, the 6-foot-4 performer, was booked Thursday for investigation of misdemeanor battery, police said.

Former President Carter to receive honorary degree

London – Former President Jimmy Carter will receive an honorary doctorate from Britain’s prestigious Oxford University, officials said Friday.

Oxford said Carter was nominated for the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law. Carter’s “presidency was marked by significant achievements in foreign policy,” the university said in a statement, announcing the honor. “He is known as a campaigner for democracy and human rights.”

The degree, subject to approval by the university’s governing council, is to be awarded at a ceremony in June in Oxford, about 60 miles west of London.
