FSHS trivia competition to air on public TV

If you’re a fan of academic trivia contests, mark your calendar for Thursday – Lawrence and Topeka students will square off on public TV.

Students from Free State High School in Lawrence and Hayden High School in Topeka will compete in a Quest competition on KTWU and KPTS public television stations.

The contest will air at 9:30 p.m. Thursday on KTWU (with a repeat at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 11) and at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 on KPTS.

The 16 teams will compete in a single-elimination competition that airs each week throughout May. The championship team will be named May 24 on KTWU and May 31 on KPTS.

The contest, co-sponsored by KTWU-PBS station and Washburn University, allows teams of high school students from across Kansas to compete against one another in answering questions on topics such as art, literature, history, math and science.

The FSHS team members are senior Bryce Baringer, senior Jack Berkowitz, sophomore Ruth Byers, senior Benjamin Greenberg and senior Jing Li.

The FSHS coach is physics teacher Oather Strawderman.
