Attorney files to withdraw from case

The attorney representing a woman charged in a fatal hit-and-run incident on U.S. Highway 59 has filed a motion to withdraw from the case.

A hearing on the motion by Clinton Lee will be today in Osage County District Court. Lee has been representing Ramona Morgan, who is charged with fleeing and attempting to elude police. Morgan also faces several traffic charges in connection with the incident in September that started with the deaths of two highway workers.

Morgan was initially scheduled to have a preliminary hearing today. She is being held in Osage County Jail on $1 million bond.

Morgan also is charged in Douglas County with two counts of reckless second-degree murder in the Sept. 11 deaths of the two workers south of Lawrence, near Pleasant Grove. That case is pending and will not be heard until the Osage County case is completed.

Morgan, 48, and her 28-year-old daughter were arrested in Osage County following a police chase that started after the men were killed. The pickup truck they were in matched the description of one that allegedly struck the highway workers. There are no charges against the daughter.
