Lawrence police Wednesday released the accident report from the Aug. 21 crash on Naismith Drive involving five Kansas University students.

The 1:10 a.m. accident occurred when a black Ford Mustang full of Kansas University Oliver Hall residents crossed the median and struck a tree, injuring all those in the car.

The report lists alcohol as a contributing factor in the accident.

According to the report, when officers arrived, they found two individuals lying in the street. They had apparently been ejected from the car. Another two students were sitting on the curb with cuts and scrapes, while a third student remained trapped inside the automobile. The report says the vehicle accelerated rapidly before encountering a curve in the road, and then the driver, Nicholas Dutoit, lost control of the vehicle, striking a tree. Passenger Christopher Hong estimated the vehicle was traveling at 30 mph.

The driver, as well as his four passengers, have all been released from the hospital.

Doesn't everyone know the danger of feeding college students "scraps"?

I was wondering what it was that 'two individuals (were) laying in the street?" Eggs? Odds? Overs?

    ******
...and now their real "train wreck" will begin. But, they're lucky no one was killed. Could have been a real life altering experience for Mr. Nicholas Dutoit.

well when charges are filed and Judge Sixx finishes with them ...esp the driver....and all the other parents file lawsuits..so much for Dutoit's college career.....

Alcohol, a factor? Wow, what a surprise!

Anyhow, I'm glad they will all be okay.

Out on Saturation Patrol justifying the bloated law enforcement budget. "Stepped off the curb a split second before the walk symbol? Oh, yeah, that's a ticket."

    How's the tree doing?

seriously the cops are just sitting in random speed traps now, half are trying to find the new stake out spot now that kasold is finished with construction. Cops in this town is about the biggest waste of the citys money

speaking as a parent, I think most of us assumed either alcohol or stupidity was involved

speaking as someone with a lick of common sense, I think most of us assumed either alcohol or stupidity was involved.

So basically, if you want to ram a car into a tree at thirty miles an hour with four of your friends along for the ride, make sure you're drunk so everyone's ok afterwards... thats the lesson, right?

Isn't that how it goes? How many times have you heard of a drunk person colliding with someone who was sober, killing them, only to live?

Maybe if we all drove drunk, there would be fewer incidents of people getting killed...

And who is it suggesting the legal age for drinking should be lowered to 18?

'And who is it suggesting the legal age for drinking should be lowered to 18?'

probably the cops in this city so they can make more arrests, and issue more tickets. That was your point? correct?

The Chancellor should apologize for his "Welcome, party animals!" greeting of the students at convocation.
