A Kansas University student was arrested after trying to make a getaway on a city-owned utility vehicle early Saturday, police said.

Officers found the 20-year-old California man attempting to start a John Deere Gator inside the gates of the Lawrence Wastewater Treatment Plant, 1400 E. Eighth St., said Sgt. Michael Monroe, a Lawrence police spokesman.

The suspect was arrested about 2 a.m. Saturday for burglary and theft, Monroe said.
