School board to hold special meeting on teacher negotiations

Lawrence school board members will meet in a special session 7 p.m. Monday at district headquarters, 110 McDonald Drive, to discuss the tentative agreement reached Wednesday on the teachers’ contract.

District spokeswoman Julie Boyle said board members will go into executive session at the meeting and then possibly take action.

Negotiators with the district and Lawrence Education Assn. reached a tentative agreement Wednesday night that includes adding $1.2 million into the teachers’ annual salary schedule – a 3.28 percent increase from last year.

District negotiators said they needed board approval before sending the tentative agreement back to teachers for a ratification vote because board members had not given them authority for that high an offer.

Deputy Superintendent Bruce Passman said Wednesday he expected board members to approve the tentative deal. Board members Craig Grant and Rich Minder helped negotiate.
