Veronica Mars goes from sleuth to superhero?

Detroit – Kristen Bell is going from solving mysteries to being a part of one.

The 27-year-old actress, who starred for three seasons as teenage detective Veronica Mars on the now-canceled show of the same name, will appear in a multi-episode arc on NBC’s “Heroes” this fall.

“This was not easy to pull off. But since we’re an ensemble show, with many arcs playing out through the year, we found a way to jump into a small window in her schedule,” Tim Kring, the show’s executive producer and creator, said.

Kring said Bell’s character, Elle, will appear in October and will be “a sexy, intriguing, mysterious young lady” who will commit a terrible crime, but it won’t be clear whose side she is really on.

Singer arrested on drug possession suspicion

London – Police arrested Pete Doherty on Monday in east London on suspicion of drug possession.

A police spokesman confirmed a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs and was in custody at an east London police station. Because of police force rules, he could not name the suspect.

Earlier this month, a judge warned Doherty, lead singer of Babyshambles, that he must prove his desire to quit drugs or face a jail sentence for other drug offenses.

Doherty, 28, has admitted possessing crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine, as well as to two driving offenses.

Several extras hurt while filming Cruise movie

Berlin – Several extras were injured when they fell out of a truck during the filming of “Valkyrie,” which stars Tom Cruise as Germany’s most famous anti-Hitler plotter.

The accident happened Sunday evening while scenes were being shot around the Finance Ministry in Berlin, which was once the Nazis’ aviation ministry.

United Artists said 10 extras briefly required medical attention after falling off the truck, which the studio said was traveling at less than 10 mph when wooden slats gave way – sending them off the side.

“No one suffered anything more serious than cuts and bruises, though one of the extras was kept in the hospital overnight for observation,” said a statement Monday from United Artists.

Ryan Seacrest tapped to host Emmy Awards

Los Angeles – Ryan Seacrest of “American Idol” is hosting next month’s Emmy ceremony, but viewers still won’t be able to call in and pick the winners.

Seacrest’s appeal is expected to be a “magnet” that pulls viewers, especially younger ones, to the awards show on Fox, Dick Askin, chairman and chief executive officer of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said Monday.

The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Sept. 16.
