New conductor at helm for chamber orchestra

The Lawrence Chamber Orchestra launches its 2007-2008 concert season under new leadership with conductor Steven McDonald.

Currently the director of orchestral activities at Ottawa University, he is completing his musical arts doctorate for Kansas University this year.

Prior to his position in Ottawa, McDonald served as assistant conductor for the KU Symphony Orchestra and directed the KU Camerata, the chamber orchestra “Sine Nomine” and the KU Opera. He has extensive experience not only in orchestral leadership but also vocal groups, including several opera programs in Massachusetts and New England. He received his Bachelor of Music from Boston University.

Lawrence Chamber Orchestra’s opening concert, “Showcase!,” is set for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H. For more details about this concert and the rest of LCO’s season, please visit www.lawrencechamberorchestra.org.
