Would-be robbery thwarted by pizza
Wichita ? A man accused of trying to rob a pizza delivery guy is behind bars after his would-be victim fought him off using his pizza.
The Papa John’s employee went to an address shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday to deliver an order but he was told no one there had ordered a pizza. As the delivery man returned to his car, a man with a metal rod approached him and demanded his wallet and the pizza.
The man began swinging the rod, but the delivery man fended him off.
“He was able to defend himself with hot pizza,” Wichita police spokesman Gordon Bassham said.
The robber fled, but police traced the phone number used to order the pizza to a nearby home, where they said they found a 24-year-old man hiding in a closet and arrested him.
