Gates shares optimism about Iraq security
Abu Dhabi ? Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday that he is optimistic about the security situation in Iraq but that a lack of political progress there is “somewhat discouraging” and taking far longer than expected.
Gates also expressed growing concerns about Iran’s aggressive posture and said the Bush administration is not looking at a containment strategy toward Tehran but is instead working in a more active way to get Persian Gulf states involved in thwarting Iran.
