Governor upgraded to stable condition

? Doctors upgraded New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine’s condition to stable Monday, saying he continues to do remarkably well given the severity of his injuries.

Dr. Steven Ross, head of the trauma unit at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, said he expects Corzine to remain in the hospital for at least another week. Corzine moved from the intensive care unit to the surgical recovery floor Monday.

“Right now, it’s his will driving him,” Ross said.

Tom Shea, Corzine’s chief of staff, said there is “absolutely no rush to get the governor back to work” because “the state is in very good hands with acting Gov. (Richard J.) Codey.”

He said he does not expect Corzine to resume his gubernatorial duties as long as he remains at Cooper, although staffers have looked into the possibility of videoconferencing down the road.
