Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence Police officers arrested two Lawrence women Thursday each on a charge of falsely reporting a crime. The suspects had attempted to report a crime to officers, but officers later determined during interviews that it did not occur, according to a police department statement.

Each suspect was free on $500 bond Thursday night, according to jail records. The Douglas County District Attorney’s office will review the case for possible charges.

¢ Leavenworth County Sheriff’s officers recovered $1,800 in stolen office equipment and arrested a suspect Thursday after a 47-year-old Washington, D.C., man had reported the items taken from a vehicle that was unlocked early Thursday morning in the 17000 section of Springdale Road in Leavenworth County. A suspect had taken the officers to the items reported stolen, according to a Leavenworth County Sheriff’s report.

¢ Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical workers found no one and no evidence that someone was hanging off of a Kansas Turnpike bridge above the Kansas River Friday afternoon.

A passing motorist had reported seeing someone hanging by his or her arm from the middle of the bridge in between the eastbound and westbound lanes. Authorities searched the catwalk under the bridge and also interviewed rowers who were in the area. They said they saw nothing, said Capt. Nathan Stover, a Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical spokesman.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ A Kia Sportage, valued at $5,000, was taken from the 23000 section of Guthrie Road near Linwood sometime Wednesday, according to a Leavenworth County Sheriff’s report.

¢ Sometime Thursday, someone broke into a house in the 19000 section of North 139th Street near Basehor and took more than $1,000 worth of firearms, televisions, money and jewelry, according to a Leavenworth County Sheriff’s report.

Injury accidents

¢ A Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical crew responded to an accident at 10:30 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 56 near Globe.

Responders told dispatchers that a truck was in the ditch north of the road with a patient thrown from the vehicle. Medical crews had called for a LifeStar helicopter.

¢ A Tonganoxie teenager suffered extensive injuries in a one-vehicle accident Thursday night and remained in a Kansas City area hospital Friday.

Ernest Davidson, 18, was driving a vehicle at a high rate of speed to the south on 219th Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Parallel Road, according to a report with the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle continued south across Parallel Road, struck the south ditch and then went airborne and struck a tree.

At some point, Davidson was ejected from the vehicle, possibly through the rear window, according to the report. A passenger was not injured, but Davidson was flown to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

A hospital spokesman said Friday that Davidson remained a patient there but an update on his condition was not available.
