Death certificate issued for Anna Nicole Smith’s son

Nassau, Bahamas – Authorities issued a death certificate for the son of Anna Nicole Smith but left the cause of death undetermined pending toxicology tests, an attorney for the former reality TV star’s family said Thursday.

Attorney Michael Scott said the document will let the former Playboy playmate bury her son, Daniel, who died Sept. 10 at his mother’s hospital bedside in the Bahamas.

Filed on Wednesday, the death certificate lists the cause as “pending chemical analysis,” said Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez.

“It is not unusual in instances where the cause of death cannot be determined to issue a death certificate,” Gomez told The Associated Press. “This is not a matter of special treatment being given in this particular case.”

Scott also said Thursday that Smith, 38, planned to file documents registering the birth of her 2-week-old daughter, but he declined to reveal the girl’s name. He added that Anna Nicole Smith has been granted permanent residency in the Bahamas, where she came to avoid media scrutiny during her pregnancy.

Military coup interrupts filming of Cage’s thriller

Hong Kong – Thailand’s military coup this week interrupted filming of Nicolas Cage’s new movie, an action thriller being shot in Bangkok, a news report said Thursday.

The Chinese news Web site Sina.com said Cage had prepared a private jet to leave the country on short notice.

Hong Kong-born twin brothers Danny and Oxide Pang are remaking their 1999 film, “Bangkok Dangerous,” Sina.com said.

When news of the coup Tuesday night reached the crew, Cage was sent back to his hotel. Crew members remained on the set to keep an eye on prop guns until Cage persuaded the producer to send everyone home, according to the report.

The directors couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Meyers replacing Fey as ‘SNL’ ‘Weekend Update’ co-anchor

New York – Seth Meyers gets the plum job of “Weekend Update” anchor next to Amy Poehler in a newly streamlined “Saturday Night Live” this season, the show’s creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels, said on Thursday.

Meyers, entering his fifth season on the late-night institution, must replace the popular Tina Fey on the fake-news anchor desk. Like Fey, Meyers also will be one of the show’s head writers.

Four cast members auditioned for the gig, but Michaels said Meyers’ writing ability and his chemistry with Poehler made the difference. Meyers has acted with Poehler in a recurrent sketch about “The Needlers,” a bickering couple who should be divorced.

Also like Fey, Meyers primarily will appear only on “Weekend Update” each week.

The repertory comedy will have 11 cast members this season, down from 16. Fey has gone on to make the new NBC prime-time comedy “30 Rock.”
