Prescription drug probe involves students

? A drug investigation that involves Baldwin High School students is being conducted by police and school officials.

No arrests have been made in the investigation that began two or three days ago, Baldwin Police Chief Mike McKenna said Friday.

McKenna wouldn’t say whether any drug stores were included in the investigation. A news release issued by True Care Pharmacy in Baldwin said, however, that a store clerk is under investigation and has been suspended from employment at the pharmacy until the investigation is completed.

True Care’s release also said the store had been cleared of issuing illegal prescription drugs. It said an audit had been performed on the store’s pharmaceutical inventory.

“We are thankful to the Baldwin City Police Department for conducting their inquiries so thoroughly, and we’d like to assure the residents of Baldwin City that our dedication to the health of this community is, and always will be, steadfast and unwavering,” the statement said.

The Baldwin school district’s attorney, Bob Bezek, would confirm only that an investigation was being conducted but would make no other comment.

The investigation in Baldwin comes on the heels of a police investigation in Tonganoxie concerning illegal distribution of prescription pills. Two male ninth-graders admitted to police that they had distributed the pain killer hydrocodone.
